My letter to MLA, HLI HAYKWHL ẂII XSGAAK, 馬蘭妮, Melanie Mark

How to write to your MLA for better wildlife management

British Columbia does not have a strong strategy and enough funding when it comes to wildlife management and funding. The best way to get involved is to build a connection with your MLA and continue to remind our elected officials we want appropriate funding for habitat and wildlife stewardship.

My letter to MLA, Melanie Mark

Dear Melanie Mark,

This letter represents the growing number of outdoor enthusiasts in Vancouver and their awareness of BC's lack of outdoor education for schools and wildlife conservation funding.

I am born and raised in East Vancouver. I love my city, and hunting and gathering have only been a part of my life for three years, and in that short time, it's changed my life. Looking back, I wish I had more exposure to the outdoors while in school; it might have saved me from much trouble as a kid.

My goals are to have better outdoor education for kids, create more awareness of BC's lack of wildlife funding, and urge institutions to balance the economy with keeping BC wild. Currently, I volunteer for the BHA with 1,300 members in BC, a majority in the lower mainland area. I often help host monthly educational events on wildlife conservation, wild foods, and river/land cleanups that bring 30-150 people per event. All funds raised go towards wildlife conservation advocacy in BC.

Here is the BHA's latest opinion published in the Province News, "Budget shows province's lack of commitment to wildlife stewardship."

Having moved to the Railtown neighborhood recently, I hope we can find time to connect. I wish to learn more about how I can help move the needle on these topics and better understand your position on these concerns.

Kind Regards,

Jenny

My purpose is to serve others by sharing the stories and lessons I gain from interesting individuals who hunt, gather, and protect our wild lands. I hope to start a movement of mindful eaters, erase the stigma of hunters and encourage you to do what you love and do it often.
